Experience the best of New Orleans on this 3-hour private walking food and history tour of the French Quarter. Learn colorful history from an expert guide while stopping for bites at famous eateries. Try new foods in a social setting and investigate the best of what city has to offer.

New Orleans is easily one of the most unique and diverse cities in the world. Famously blending a past full of Spanish, French, and West African cultures with pre-civil war antebellum plantation homes, modern development and the scars of a recent natural disaster, the city offers a depth of complexity in its architecture, cuisine, and people. Understanding how the city came to be and how all these seemingly disparate elements form a cohesive whole takes time, patience, and a talented guide. Luckily, this 3-hour walking tour helps make the process easier by focusing on two of the most important of these elements - architecture and food - in New Orleans's most famous neighborhood.

Your tour begins in Jackson Square and makes approximately 15 stops along a less than 2 mile route through the French Quarter. At each stop, a local, professional guide will share bits of history and trivia to give you a background into how the neighborhood grew and developed over the course of more than 300 years of habitation. You'll hear stories of the early spanish explorers and the slave trade they brought to their new settlement near the delta of the mighty Mississippi River. Your guide will explain why certain buildings look the way they do and the influences that have shaped the area over the years. Most importantly, you'll stop at 3-4 carefully selected bars and restuaraunts along the way to sample small appetizers and drinks to gain further insights into the city's culture.

The food and drink isn't included in the cost of the tour and is completely optional to purchase, but your guide will do his or her best to provide you with options to truly explore some of the best of what New Orleans has to offer. At the conclusion of the walk, you'll be left back near Jackson Square armed with a newfound appreciation of the neighborhood's history and a long list of awesome recommendations from an expert local guide.
