We'll drive past an actual levee that 'breached' and see the resulting devastation that displaced hundreds of thousands of U.S. residents.
The direct connection between America 's disappearing coastal wetlands, oil & gas pipelines, levee protection and hurricane destruction will be explained.

Your tour guide will give a "local's" chronology of events leading up to Hurricane Katrina and the days immediately following the disaster.
You'll be amazed at the volume and variety of products "offloaded" in the multimodal port of New Orleans , the second largest port in the country, and then distributed to your hometown.

Did you know that 30% of the seafood (fish, crabs, shrimp, oysters, and crawfish) harvested in the lower 48 states comes from the coastal wetlands in South Louisiana?

After this tour, you'll have a better understanding of events pre and post Katrina and the "Rebirth of New Orleans!"

$3.00 will be donated to a non-profit organization of your choice (1 of 4) that has been directly affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Choice of charities: America's Wetlands, Habitat for Humanity, Louisiana SPCA, or Tipitina's Jazz Foundation.

Itinerary

New Orleans Hurricane Katrina and City Tour©2006 Gray Line

Travel Through Three Centuries of history, legends and romance as you encounter "The City That Care Forgot!"

When the history of the United States was written, New Orleans played a major role. Now New Orleans has another place in the history books - one they would prefer not to have. On August 29, 2005, New Orleans and the Gulf Coast were devastated by a storm that will go down in history as AMERICA 'S WORST CATASTROPHE!

The new tour was created in an attempt to accurately inform visitors from around the world as to the factors contributing to this cataclysmic event. Participants will learn how oil & gas pipelines, manmade levee protection, and America 's disappearing coastline combined to create this massive hurricane destruction. The tour has been written by locals, one of whom stayed in New Orleans ( next to the Superdome) throughout the storm. The tour will emphasize New Orleans ' importance to the U. S. and global economies through its oil & gas production, traffic through the second largest port in the country, and its seafood harvest. Participants will see and believe not only the devastation, but also the rebirth and rebuilding needed to save America 's Most Interesting City !

"Since so many of our employees, including myself, lost our home and possessions, this tour will be operated with the utmost sensitivity to the thousands of local residents still trying to get their lives back in order." Gray Line New Orleans Vice- President Greg Hoffman explains.
